No fewer than 1500 households within the Abaranje, Ikotun area of Lagos State have been empowered by a non-governmental organization known as the Ogochukwu Debbie Foundation.
The Ogochukwu Debbie Foundation yesterday Monday 30th of March 2020, took its charity works to a higher level with the empowerment programme organized for the under-privileged, widows and orphans.
In response to the yearnings of the less privilege amid the economic hardship caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ogochukwu Debbie Foundation reached out to the less-privileged in Abaranje, ikotun area of Lagos State by distributing food-items, face masks and hand sanitizers to households in the area. During the exercise, over 1500 hand sanitizers, 1,000 face masks and thousands of different food-items were distributed to orphans, widows and the less-privilegeds. In a brief chat with BiznessWatch Magazine, the founder, Ogochukwu Debbie Foundation, Mrs. Debbie Ogochukwu Odion , said that the gesture was imperative to assist the pitiable conditions of the less-privileged, widows and orphans in the society as well as boosting their confidence at this trying times.
“The foundation was established to alleviate sufferings and pains of the less-privileged, especially widows and their children in the society.
“Beyond empowering the less privilege, the Ogochukwu Debbie Foundation is basically an advocacy group that stands for the rights of people who have been abused sexually, emotionally, etc and don’t have the financial wherewithal to get legal representation.
“As I speak, we have empowered a lot of people by organizing empowerment programmes where different skills and crafts were taught. We have also given financial aids to heads of families to enable them start up businesses to be able to fend for their families.
“We have also provided accommodation for a lot of families knowing how important shelter is to everyone in the society.
“In the past three years, through the Real Issues Conference (RIC), we have organized several seminars and conferences where we educate people on how to handle real life issues. If we had the opportunity we would have organized training on how the COVID-19 pandemic, how it is spreads, the safety measures to employ and so on.
“The advocacy arm of the Ogochukwu Debbie Foundation is saddled with the responsibility of fighting for the rights of the common man in the society. In the past, we have paid for legal representation for those who have been abused, oppressed but don’t have anyone to stand for them.
“You will agree with me that the dehumanization and injustice meted to less-privileged in the country is unimaginable, hence, I decided to contribute my little quota as a selfless act to alleviate their pain.
“To change our society and make the world a better place, we must love, give and share no matter how small,” she added.
